unfr0zen
Free your Nest Learning Thermostat from Google's cloud
Local MQTT, Matter and Zigbee for Home Assistant. Installed over USB, no Google account, keeps working when the internet is down.
No cloud
No Google account, no internet needed. The thermostat talks to your own network only, and the Wi-Fi it joins doesn't need internet access.
MQTT
Relays the thermostat to your MQTT broker with Home Assistant's MQTT discovery: modes, setpoints, eco, humidity, fan, schedule and more.
Matter
Serves the unit as a Matter thermostat over Wi-Fi, commissioned with a pairing code or over Bluetooth on supported units. Thread support is experimental.
Zigbee
Joins your Zigbee2MQTT network as a router through the thermostat's own 802.15.4 radio, and still sleeps between messages.
On-device settings
An UNFR0ZEN menu on the thermostat itself shows Matter pairing codes and QR, and handles Zigbee pairing. The original firmware is kept for undo.
One app, every OS
A single self-contained executable for Windows, macOS and Linux. Recovery firmware is embedded; plug in a data micro-USB cable and go.
Backup & restore
The CLI backs up, verifies and restores the thermostat's whole NAND as an image before you touch anything.
It runs Doom
Obviously. Turn the ring to walk, press to fire. The shareware episode is included.
Open source
The app, the recovery firmware, nestlocal and the radio firmware are all built from source. No prebuilt binary patches.
